Welcome to 'TEAM 5' : 2009-2010

I am trying to get TEAM 5 (and my fourth graders) to strive to 'step up to the plate' and become responsible for their academics. Please emphasize the importance of being responsible, focusing in class, putting forth 100% effort, and having confidence for success. I tell the students daily that 'they can do it'; let's remind them every chance we get!!

HOMEWORK- Week of March 8-12
4th Social Studies-
~ We are still continuing our adventure in 'note taking'. We read and discuss the subsections as a group- then we 'think and share' our ideas for notes. We're moving slower than I would have wanted- but we're working hard and are coming along. It would benefit each student to bring their notebook home every night and re-read/think their notes that were taken in class. Please ask to see them and 'quiz' them with a few questions!
** Beginning Chapter 6- Civil War and Reconstruction
(chapter test is scheduled for March 19-** due to re-testing last week)
Tuesday- Look over the chapter
Wednesday- Re-read chapter and notes from LSN1
Friday- Re-read chapter and notes from LSN 2
Math-
~ STUDY MULTIPLICATION /DIVISION TABLES - there are still many students who do NOT know their facts!! Please help them nightly with a 'quick review' of maybe two numbers...."9 and 7" up to 12. It's through this 'drill' that they will learn them, familiarize themselves with the mental image of the answer, and will greatly benefit from it.They've been told since the beginning of the year that "they don't go away"...they have seen that in division and now fractions!!
~ Please check your childs planner for the assignment. So much is depending on what we get finished in a day.Homework is going to be an extension of what we covered in class.
(Comparing/Ordering fractions test is scheduled for March 16**)
Tuesday- review comparing/ordering fractions
Thursday- no class- review comparing/ordering
Friday- review for test
Religion-
~ We are alternating between Family Life books and We Believe books. Family Life is an excellent way for the students to 'grasp' the meaning of topics discussed in We Believe based on their daily, 'real', everyday lives. We also read stories from the 'Chicken Soup' series (age appropriate) as it offers an excellent forum for discussion.

***A friendly reminder- I am assisting those who might need extra help in Math or a subject of mine after school for one hour. Study hall will be on FRIDAY from 315-415 pm only for those who have returned permission slips (letter). Students are allowed to bring a 'dry' snack. Please remind your child that this is a serious opportunity for extra help; not an escape from Angel Care. PLEASE be there by 415 sharp for pickup. THANKS.

5th Social Studies-
~ We have been working in groups condensing Chapters; working as a team. With the use of graphic organizers, my goal is to make the information 'simpler' to comprehend and retain. The test will be written from the organizer prepared and reviewed in class.
** Chapter test is schedule for FRIDAY- MARCH 12!
Monday- re-read and review notes from LSN 1 -4
Tuesday- Re-read and review notes from LSN 4- *STUDY FOR TEST ON FRIDAY
5th Math-
~ We continue our lessons for ENTERPRISE VILLAGE. The students will learn about 'business enterprise', making a profit, the responsiblity of getting/retaining a job, balancing a checkbook, keeping a deposit register, and spending money wisely. They are very excited about this. If you have any questions- please email me! ** Once we finish Enterprise Village- we are moving into Geometry (due to an overwhelming class vote) whoohoo!!! Wednesday- Finish Enterprise Village curriculum-- field trip is on THURSDAY- March 11.
Thursday- Finish Enterprise Village curriculum- will begin Chapter 8- Geometry next week!
Religion-
