    EC-4 Summer Newsletter

    Dear Parents:

Here are some activities you and your child can do during the summer:

Read to your child daily. Choose a story that does not have too many words. Name the author, illustrator and title of the story. As your child becomes familiar with those words, ask them: What does the author do and the illustrator?

During your reading stop and ask your child what is happening in the story? What is/are the characters’ names?

When you finish reading, have your child retell the story, or draw a picture about the story.

Math Activities: Write number 1 through 10, have your child put them in order, then ask him/her what number is before…what number is after.

Cut out shapes (several of each shape and if possible use color paper) have your child name the shapes and colors. Group by shapes and then by colors. Then do patterns, ex: circle, triangle, circle, triangle, circle (what comes next?)

    To practice fine motor skills:

Let your child cut out pictures from newspapers or magazines. Draw straight, curve or zigzag lines on a white piece of paper; let your child cut on the lines.

Play games with positional words: Ex: put the toy on the table; put the toy under the table etc.

Children learn through play, the more fun you make these activities, the more your child will like to get involved.

Have a safe, fun and blessed summer.

    Ms. Merci/Ms. Mercedes
